The Arrowrock Dam was originally constructed in 1915, commissioned by President Taft. At the time of construction, it was the tallest concrete dam in the world at 315 feet. Froelich Consulting Engineers was part of the team to design a 16 MW power generation facility to tap the un-utilized waterflow that continuously passes through the dam. The structural design of the powerhouse consisted of a 68-foot diameter, cast-in-place cylindrical shaped concrete shell. The structure is 70-feet deep, anchored to bedrock with rockbolts and a post-tensioned beam to resist buoyant forces and high water pressures. Two 8 MW generators receive water from two 8-foot diameter pipes that re-route 1500 cfs of water from the discharge penstocks at the base of the dam. The powerhouse structure is designed to resist 68-feet of water pressure
